Danville, VA - Danville police officers were recognized Wednesday afternoon for pulling people over. The ceremony was called "Saved by the Belt".
Chief Philip Broadfoot says it's important to conduct traffic stops, not only because it makes the roads safer, but because it often leads to criminal arrests, too.
Last year, the Street Crimes Unit spent nine months focusing on traffic violations. During that period, just over half of the citations led to uncovering criminal activity.
Broadfoot is proud of his officers for doing their job so well.
"Showcase for the community crime prevention and the efforts that we're engaged in. What we are doing here is not just traffic safety but crime prevention," Chief Broadfoot said.
Officer Derrick Lancaster and Officer James Godfrey won the most awards for 2012.
Danville, VA - A tree, almost 100 feet tall, came crashing down during Tuesday's storm, just missing a house in Danville.
