Bedford Co. Agrees to Regional Library Study

Bedford Co., VA – Bedford County has agreed to look into the formation of a regional library system in Central Virginia.

Bedford County supervisors originally said no to the idea, but changed their minds this week. Campbell County is already on board. Lynchburg City Council is expected to discuss it next month.

Bob White, with Region 2000, says there could be a big cost savings for the local governments and more options for library patrons.

"You'll have access to a much broader collection of books and materials," said White. "Your programming will benefit from the collaborative efforts of three library systems. It is in those areas we would expect to see some success."

If Lynchburg agrees to move forward, each locality will pay $22,000 toward the $66,000 study.
