Authorities are hoping to keep our rivers and lakes safe this Fourth of July holiday, by strictly enforcing boating and drinking rules.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol Marine Enforcement is taking part in Operation Dry Water starting Friday, as part of a national effort to reduce the number of deadly drinking and boating accidents.

The operation runs throughout the weekend and includes increased patrols and checkpoints at all state lakes.

Boaters under the influence can be arrested or face serious penalties, including a $1,000 fine or jail time.
