Fireworks Warning for Pet Owners

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA - The most common day for pets to go missing is the on the 4th of July.

In fact, according to animal experts, the pounds fill up very quickly in the days to follow. The reason is because animals, especially dogs, run away because their anxiety skyrockets when they hear those loud "pops" from fireworks.

Without understanding the noises, many pets become frantic and often run away.

"The only way to keep your dogs safe is to expect the worst. Make sure that they are taken care of as far as fed and watered beforehand because a lot of times anxiety will take away a lot of their hunger and thirst," said Valerie Harris, CPDT-KA, Kennel Manager of Pet Craze.

Animal experts say be sure to secure your pet in the house in a quite and safe place, and if necessary use medication to calm your pet down.
