Salem Officials Report Numerous High Water Rescues


Salem, VA -  Salem's Swiftwater Rescue Team was very busy overnight as the Roanoke River crested its banks.

The team was called out to rescue a young woman who was stuck in high water on Kessler Mill Road.  She was not hurt. 

Salem Fire and EMS crews also performed 12 boat rescues overnight as the floodwaters threatening some residential areas.  Ramey's Mobile Home Park and Salem Mobile Home Village were evacuated. 

There were voluntary evacuations at Riverland Trailer Park.

The Red Cross has opened up a shelter at Andrew Lewis Middle School for anyone who is displaced.
