Red Cross Assists Displaced Residents in Salem

Salem, VA - The Red Cross assisted some of those people who were displaced from their homes overnight.

About seven people got help at Andrew Lewis Middle School in Salem --all from Ramsey's Trailer Court.

The shelter included a place to sleep and breakfast was served Thursday morning.

The Red Cross allowed people to bring their pets with them too.

The shelter will accommodate 100 people, which wasn't needed. But officials say they didn't know what to expect overnight.

"We were very concerned through the night as waves of rain kept coming and coming. the EMS people just told us to sit tight there could be many more people coming," said Anda Divine with the Red Cross.
