Salem - All-star baseball competition in this year's Subway Commonwealth Games of Virginia is this weekend at Kiwanis Field in Salem.
All of this week's rain has forced Friday's workout to be rescheduled for Saturday morning at 9:30, that's when all the college coaches and pro scouts can evaluate some of the top rising juniors and seniors in the state. More than 300 players tried out for the four teams representing different regions of the state.
The first game will now start early Saturday afternoon with four five-inning games to be played Saturday, then four more Sunday beginning at 9:30 in the morning. Ryan Zimmerman, Justin Verlander and Atlanta's Upton brothers are just a few of the Games' former All-Stars.
