UPDATE: Salem Police Confirm Body Discovered is Edward S. Clark, Jr.

Salem, VA - The Salem Police Department has confirmed that a body discovered Monday afternoon is a Salem man reported missing since July 7.

Salem, VA - The Salem Police Department says a body discovered Monday afternoon may be of a Salem man reported missing since July 7.

The body was found around 3:30 p.m. Monday near the 500 block of McClelland Street, submerged in a nearby creek, according to police.

Officers say they discovered the body as they were looking for Edward S. Clark, Jr., 54, of Salem.

Clark was reported missing July 7 by his family members. He was last seen on Academy Street on July 4, when he apparently was caught-up in a flooded stream that runs behind his residence, police say.

Police began their search on Sunday afternoon and canvassed a large area along the stream until dark that evening.

Monday, members of the Salem Fire and EMS Department, including the Swift Water Rescue team helped in the search, before the body was discovered late Monday afternoon.

Salem Police say indications are the body is indeed that of the missing person, Edward S. Clark, Jr.

A positive identification of the body has not been made yet.

The body has been transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office where further testing can be conducted. The Medical Examiner's Office will ultimately determine the cause of death based upon its findings in conjunction with the Salem Police Department's investigation.
