South Boston, VA - A large crowd was on hand for Republican Lt. Governor candidate E.W. Jackson's stop in South Boston Tuesday.

He was met by both supporters and opposition.

Protestors outside the Hardee's, handed out fliers opposing some of Jackson's past controversial statements about Planned Parenthood and homosexuality, but inside, folks listened to him discuss his hope for Virginia's future.

Jackson's camp declined to comment on any controversy surrounding his views, but Jackson says it was important to him to connect with the people of Southside Virginia.

"People here really are looking for leadership, looking for people who care about them, and want to help deal with the unemployment problems - the economic problems - we have here, and I want to come and express my solidarity with them," said Jackson.

Jackson also had an encounter with a protestor when talking about faith. Jackson, who is a bishop, is a vocal advocate of Christianity.
