Details emerge around a fisherman's drowning in Greene County

Posted: Updated:
GREENE COUNTY - AL -

Just before noon Wednesday, divers found and pulled the body of 39 year old Christopher Averette from the Black Warrior River in Greene County.

According to sources, Averette and a friend apparently went 'netting' for fish near Lock 7 Dam Tuesday afternoon.  We're told their boat tilted and was likely sucked into the strong current of the dam.

The friend was able to get out of the turbulence of the water but Averette could not although witnesses say he resurfaced once.

Divers found Averetttes body about 10 feet from where he went down.

The remnants of the fishermen's boat was spotted about a 1/2 mile downstream Wednesday.  It's just one mangled piece.

Christopher Averette lived in Moundville with his wife.

A woman claiming to be a sister of the drowning victim, but didn't give her name - tells ABC 33/40, Averette loved to fish and had come to the area several times.
