'Family Matters' May Have Lead To Roanoke Shooting

Posted:

Roanoke, VA - Roanoke Police say "family matters" may have ignited a Sunday evening shooting that left two wounded and a third person dead.

Investigators now say Thomas Hubert Radford, 61, of Salem, came to the home and shot his 72 year old brother in law in the basement.

Radford then turned the gun on his sister who was shot in the arm.

When police arrived in the 100 Block of Houston Avenue they found Ernest Booden, who had been shot in the abdomen, and Cynthia Booden, 60, who managed to escape and call police from the neighbor's house.

In the backyard they found Radford dead of a gunshot wound to the head.

A firearm was found near his body.

For longtime residents the violence comes as quite the surprise.

"[It is the] Most wonderful neighborhood that I've lived in. It's very quiet and this is a shock to me. This is the first time I've ever heard or seen anything like that," said Howard Thompson who lives a few homes down.

The initial investigation shows that "family matters" may have led to the shooting.

The home where the shooting occurred is listed as being party in a revocable trust situation as part of an estate.
