Lynchburg College Screen Athletes for Heart Risk

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA - Lynchburg College is screening some of its student athletes for heart risk this year.

Leaders say 200 athletes will get the testing done before they start practice. Two doctors are lending a hand pro bono.

LC now has two electrocardiogram machines that were donated by the Cardiovascular Group of the Centra Stroobants Heart Center.

The machines were donated in the memory of LC freshman Adam Seymour, whose heart failed less than an hour into the first men's soccer practice back in 2011. He died three days later.

Of the nearly 500 athletes tested over the last three years, five were found to have genetic cardiac abnormalities.
