Stomping Grapes While Raising Money for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

Posted: Updated:

A local organization is stomping grapes to raise both awareness and cash.

The Oklahoma chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Team in Training brought hundreds of people together this weekend to have a smashing good time.

"It's not a hundred dollars a ticket to come out here and enjoy the day. So it is a little more casual, you get to have a lot more fun and people get to do something that they have always wanted to try," volunteer Angela Rosecrans said.

This is the second year this organization has done a grape stomp and event goers love the idea.

"I am looking forward to that. I am a little older where I remember the Lucille Ball situation, where she did a grape stomp. So, I am looking forward to see if anyone is as good as she was," Doug Hightower said.

Hightower said he came out here because he has a friend that recently was successful in betting lymphoma and all the money raised here will stay in Oklahoma to help families with medical expenses and well as help fund research.

"There are grants for people here in Oklahoma up to ten thousand dollars to help them when they are going through treatments, to help them with the expenses that they have," volunteer Laura McPartland said.

Research that is funded through the Leukemia and Lymphoma society isn't just for those diseases but will go toward breast, lung and ovarian cancer research.

Last year, the event brought several thousand dollars to the local chapter and this year's event is expected to bring in more. During the event, visitors were able to taste local wine from Whispering Vines, listen to music, eat lunch and of course try your 'foot' at stomping the grapes.
