Roanoke City Schools Taking Steps to Improve Technology

Posted:

Roanoke, VA - As Roanoke City Schools kicked off their year Monday, the district superintendent is warning parents to expect several schools will lose their accreditation when spring SOL scores are returned.

Roanoke City Schools Superintendent Dr. Rita Bishop says a technology gap exists with students who do not have computers at home and the current format of the Standards of Learning.

To fix the issue, the district is looking for 120 computers that can be donated to needy students.

"Almost kid for kid… If you didn't have a computer at home you didn't pass. So there's just a lot of reason for us to try to get technology in the hands of students," said Dr. Bishop.

Dr. Bishop says they already have 82 computers that only need to be able to have a word processor installed on them to be of good use.
