Summary: The Generals don't have to face Brookville, Rustburg, and Altavista twice during the regular season this year so that will help them right away. Following four straight 3-7 regular seasons, first-year head coach Jay Phares is trying to change the culture around the football program. On the day in which Football Friday was at practice only 29 players were in uniform. Lack of team chemistry and an inability to demonstrate a consistent work ethic have been the main issues on recent William Campbell teams but Phares, who was an assistant under former William Campbell head coach Brad Bradley at Patrick Henry, knows that success can be found in Naruna. Phares will run a 4-4 defense and has installed the deceptive Single Wing offense that he thinks will benefit a team with a lack of depth but one that has speed at key offensive positions.
