Summary: After a rough 2012 season, the Statesmen start anew with first-year head coach Jay Cole. He played for Halifax County H.S., went to Emory & Henry College and then has made a number of coaching stops as an assistant at Carroll County, Halifax, G.W., and most recently Averett University. He has a challenge in front of him but he says he has a great bunch of kids that are excited for the season. If you go to a Randolph-Henry practice the most recognizable theme is "Brotherhood." That slogan is on everyone's shirts, shorts, and every huddle is broken with "1-2-3 Brotherhood." The lack of brotherhood has plagued the Statesmen in recent years. Too many egos have gotten in the way of potential success. Cole believes that has changed and now they can focus on football. Joseph Reed is R-H's best athlete and he has moved from QB to slot WR in order to get him the ball in space. In mid-August sophomore Trae Shuford and junior Logan Moon were battling for the starting QB position. Defensively coaches say they need to improve on tackling, filling the gaps, and running hard downfield.
