Model of Tulsa's Newest Park on Display

A smaller but equally impressive model of Tulsa's newest park is on display downtown for those wanting a glimpse.

When it's all said and done, "A Gathering Place for Tulsa" will span 50 acres along the Arkansas River. But for now, visionaries will display the model at the Arts & Humanities Council through Sept. 27.

Funding for the project was led by the George Kaiser Family Foundation, which committed $50 million with the purchase of 55 acres of land near to River Parks and a midtown pedestrian bridge.

Kaiser is a lifelong Tulsan and one of the wealthiest people in the U.S, according to a report for the Associated Press. He's chairman of BOK Financial Corp. and a major shareholder in various energy and technology companies.

During several public and neighborhood meetings, more than 1,300 comments were recorded and used by architects planning the park.
