A "blue moon" shined big and bright over Tulsa and the country Tuesday night.

The term, while a bit confusing, doesn't actually mean the moon will be a shade of blue -- this time around, it actually means a "seasonal blue moon."

According to the Weather Channel, that is when we see the third of four full moons in a season, a rare event that hasn't happened in three years.

It can also refer to a second full moon in a month, though that is not the case this August.

Take a moment to glance up tonight -- the next seasonal blue moon will be seen May 21, 2016.
