Lynchburg - Despite losing 6-3 to Frederick Monday night, the Hillcats moved closer to clinching a playoff spot. Wilmington also lost, so Lynchburg's magic number is now just two to clinching the Northern Division wild card spot.
The Hillcats got the tying run to the plate in the ninth but couldn't complete the comeback in Monday's 6-3 loss. Lynchburg starter Williams Perez took a 4-hit shutout into the sixth but that's when the wheels came off. Michael Mosby crushed a two-run homer to left to break up a scoreless game with Sammie Starr plating two more later in the inning to make it 4-0.
Frederick added two in the seventh to make it 6-0 before Lynchburg got one back in the bottom of the seventh, then two in the ninth for the 6-3 final.
The Hillcats scored just three runs despite banging out 10 hits for the game. Levi Hyams, Kyle Kubitza and Daniel Castro all drove in runs for Lynchburg.
Mosby hit his second homer of the game in the seventh for Frederick, another two-run shot.
