Labor Day Travelers Get One Last Trip In Before Gas Prices Rise

Lynchburg, VA - Monday was the unofficial end to summer for a many coming home from their last vacation of the season.

Labor Day is one of the busiest travel days of the year.

Triple-A is projecting that 29.2 million Americans are traveling for the holiday weekend, up 4.3% from last year.

Triple-A is also warning drivers that gas prices are on the rise because of tensions in the Middle East.

There has been a national downward trend in gas prices, but that's been reversed due to higher crude oil prices.

Lynchburg area drivers say they are happy to get in one more trip before gas prices start going up again.

Since VDOT suspended most road work over the weekend, drivers say traffic around our area really hasn't been too bad.

"I didn't want to deal with traffic on a holiday weekend between New York City and Washington D.C. and this is a lot better than having to deal with stop and go traffic through the cities," said traveler Barbara Goldberg.

If you are going to be out on the road Monday night, State Police are out as part of Operation CARE so make sure you buckle up and drive safely.
