Rustburg H.S. softball player Whittney Critchley recently participated in the Queen of Diamonds Showcase at Winthrop University from August 31st to September 1st.
It's one of the largest fast pitch softball showcases of its kind in the U.S. It attract athletes from 30 states and two Canadian Provinces.
The event usually has 1,500 applicants in which 264 athletes are selected. Players are individually selected based on many criteria ranging from ability, potential, academics, graduation year, coach's requests and referrals.
Critchley also plays summer ball for the Aftershock 16U travel team based in Central Virginia.
