Update 5 p.m.:

Nelson Co., VA - Lockn' Music Festival's media liasion released a statement Thursday evening regarding the massive traffic backup and delay in letting people inside the festival gates.

Olivia Branch released this statement:

"The Lockn' volunteers and staff are doing an amazing job. Everyone is working as best considering the delayed time in entering. The average time for entry into popular festivals is between 5-7 hours or more. Our search of vehicles took longer than expected. Thankfully we are staffed and pulled volunteers and staff from other areas. For a first time event, the large part of the wait is ending. Evening travelers can expect some delay, but not what early birds experienced this morning.

We are grateful for staff, especially our volunteers and festival attendees for their patience. We look forward to rockn at Lockn'! Day tickets available with parking."

Update 3:45 p.m.:

Nelson Co., VA - Thousands of people attending the LOCKN' Festival in Nelson County have been waiting to get inside the gates for hours Thursday.

Several people have reached out to us saying they've been sitting in traffic for more than 6.5 hours. There are four gates letting cars in, but each vehicle needs to go through a checkpoint.

Many people have been posting on the festival's Facebook page, complaining about the wait.

Most of these people have been in line since 9 a.m.Thursday.

The Nelson County Sheriff's Office says event personnel who were directing traffic through the field unexpectedly quit earlier Thursday. They say only two or three people remained.

The sheriff's office says crews are concerned about possible fights and maintaining order, but as of now, nothing major has happened.

The gates were supposed to open Thursday at 2 p.m., and the first band is scheduled to go on stage at 4 p.m.

We'll bring you more information as we get it.

Update noon:

Nelson Co., VA -  We are getting photos from viewers who are off Route 29 and trying to get into the festival.

Multiple viewers say they are having to park in a waiting area in a field, and they don't see many staff members handling all the traffic.

One viewer, Nelson Smither, says they were supposed to be into the festival grounds at 9 a.m. Thursday. As of a few minutes ago, he and many others are still waiting - and some are starting to get angry.
