Stage is Set at Lockn' Festival

Arrington, VA - Thousands of people are headed to Nelson County for one of the largest festivals in its history.

Lockn' Festival kicks off Thursday through Sunday and is expected to bring a huge boost to the local economy.

Organizers are conducting sound checks, last minute meetings, and loading and unloading, preparing for four days of rock'n roll.

Greg Newman unpacks boxes of jewelry and clothes after driving all the way from his home state of Vermont.

"Every summer we come out and do festivals. We've been doing this for 20 years maybe," Newman said, one of several vendors.

Hundreds of vendors are camped out, hoping to turn a profit.

"Some people have the potential to make quadruple their investment. A lot of other people don't even break even at these things," added Gretta Foss.

The owner of Starr Hill Brewery, based in Charlottesville, says they have 400 kegs on tap. It isn't just beer sales this businessman is looking forward to, however.

"I learned a lot of my entrepreneurial lessons in the parking lot of a Grateful Dead concert," Thompson explained.

Two former band members of Grateful Dead are in the festival's line up, along with Widespread Panic and the String Cheese Incident, the Black Crowes and the new addition of Grace Potter and her band the Nocturnals.

Traffic is expected to get congested on Route 29 in the Arrington area. The Virginia Department of Transportation recommends using Route 151 as an alternate.
