Danville, VA--There's a new person in Danville working to help those affected by domestic violence.
Veronica Carter is the new domestic violence and assault advocate for the YWCA of Central Virginia in Danville. With a background in criminal justice Carter said her passion is to empower domestic violence victims and get them back on their feet. Her main mission to spread awareness of domestic violence in the area.
Danville Regional Medical has donated a building to house a domestic violence shelter in the area called Haven of the Dan River Region, but the building is need of renovations before the shelter can open.
There will be a walk called Haven on the Run and it's scheduled for October 12. All the money raised from that walk will benefit Haven of the Dan River Region.
