Salem, VA - The Salem VA Medical Center is installing 6,000 solar panels to help with energy costs.
The panels are going on a six acre closed landfill.
Each panel can produce 270 watts of direct current electrical power, which means it will produce 10% of the medical center's annual electrical load.
Not only will it save money, but it frees up some space on Apco's electric grid.
The whole project costs around $5 million.
