Myrtle Beach - Mookie Betts doubled in the 10th and later scored on a sacrifice fly and the Salem Red Sox held on to beat Myrtle Beach 4-3 to win the Carolina League's Southern Division Championship. The Red Sox now advance to play Potomac in the Mills Cup Championship Series beginning Saturday night at Potomac.
Salem trailed the Pelicans 3-0 before scoring three in the fifth to tie the game. Red Sox pitcher Matt Price got out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth with a strikeout to send the game to the 10th when Salem would win it.
Salem has now won eight straight games. Potomac will host the first two games in the best-of-5 championship series with the action then shifting to Salem. Monday will be a travel day with game three Tuesday night in Salem then, if necessary, games four and five on Wednesday and Thursday night in Salem.
