South Boston, VA-- South Boston officials were celebrating a milestone on Thursday at the South Boston section of the Tobacco Heritage Trail.
They celebrated the one year anniversary of the opening , but the trail also got some national recognition.
The trail now has the status of a National Recreation Trail. A Representative from the National Park Service was there to present the award.
They said now that the trail has this title, it's eligible for even more grants that will help develop the trail, and in turn attract more people to it.
"This little section is 2.5 miles, we're looking to extend that," said Robyn Fowler,Regional Planner at the Southside Planning District Commission. "It's more opportunity for us to get more grants for it.
