Update: Local Radio Stations Back on the Air After Power Outage

Posted:

Update 4 p.m.:

It was a frustrating day for several of your favorite radio stations Friday. A power outage in Roanoke knocked several stations off the air!

This affected both Clear Channel and Max Wheeler stations.

Steve Cross at Clear Channel says for them, the outage happened earlier in the morning around 7:15. It knocked out WROV, Steve FM, Jammin JJS, Sunny 93.5, and the ALT Project.

Those stations were back on air by about 9 a.m.

That's when the Wheeler stations - including K92, Vibe, and Star Country - lost power. Their signals came back later Friday afternoon.

A spokesperson for Appalachian Power says the outage was caused by a problem with an underground cable.

Clear Channel is still having some power issues. They're adjusting, but Cross says they are keeping their signals up and running.

Update 12:15 p.m.:

Kevin Scott, the program director for K92, Q99 and WVIR, says the station has been operating from the power from the Star Country bus and the Q99 mobile diner. He says Star Country and Q99 are back on air.

K92 keeps going on and off air as well.

Roanoke, VA - Several local radio stations are off the air Friday due to a power outage near the studio in Roanoke.

Kianna Wade, the program director at Vibe 100, posted on her Facebook page that all of the Mel Wheeler stations are currently off air. Those include 94.9 Star Country, 107.3 WFIR, Vibe 101.1, Q99 and K92.

Danny Meyers, the co-host of K92's "The Mornin' Thang," confirmed that K-92 and Vibe 100 lost signal at around 9 a.m.

The spokesperson for AEP says the outage was caused by a problem with an underground cable. Crews are accessing the issue to see how long they'll be without power.
