New Initiative Helps Rogers County Officers in Need

Posted: Updated:

A new initiative in Rogers County began over the weekend helping certain members of the Rogers County Sheriff's Office.

"10-23 Request Backup" was created after officials witnessed the need for assistance within the RCSO. And on Sunday Sergeant Tandy Reeder was the first to benefit from the new program.

"We recognize that those of us within the ranks of law enforcement often time we need assistance,"  Rogers County Deputy Coy Jenkins said. "And that's why we came up with this program."

The initiative's name stems from the radio command for an officer in need of assistance. And the assistance is what the department hopes to give officials like Sergeant Reeder for all they give to the general public.

"I was told we were going to investigate a fraud and we were going to meet at my house," Reeder said. "And then police cars, news crews, tons of cars and pickups pulling into my driveway with a tractor."

Crews with the "10-23 Request Backup" program gathered at Reeder's home to help cut down tree limbs and clear out his yard. In the future the program also will help officers during times of stress or financial need.

"I love these guys. I appreciate them very much. I didn't do anything to deserve this, but I appreciate them very much," Reeder added.
