Rocky Mount Man Pleads Guilty to Extorting Trooper

Rocky Mount, VA - A Rocky Mount man faces up to five years in jail after pleading guilty to extorting a Virginia State Police trooper.

According to court documents, Courtney Glenn Hall, 26, sent text messages to a married trooper threatening to expose what Hall claimed was a relationship between his girlfriend and the officer.

Prosecutors say the trooper had known the woman for several years and gave her money to pay for education, but there was no other known relationship with her.

Under the plea agreement, Franklin Commonwealth Attorney Tim Allen says that Hall's sentence would be capped at five years. Sentencing is set for December 2.

Hall also faces a separate weapons charge.
