Danville, VA - The longest on-air radio personality in Danville is retiring.
Phil Watlington works at WBTM and WAKG. He started working there 51 years ago, just a few years after high school.
Watlington has been on-air doing various shows, voicing commercials, and doing Public Service Announcements. Most recently he hosted 'The Swing Shift' on Sundays.
Watlington says the station has changed a great deal since he started, but he has always considered his co-workers family.
"I never thought about when I came here in 1962 that I would be here for 51 years. To be in any profession at any given place for that long is kind of rare," Watlington said.
Watlington says he hopes to have a quiet retirement, and he plans to still visit the station on occasion.
