Veterans Offering Reward in Doughboy Statue Vandalism

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA - A group of veterans plans to offer a reward to help catch whoever damaged a Lynchburg statue dedicated to WWI veterans.

The "Doughboy" is a permanent fixture at the weekly Monument Terrace Troop Rally. His bayonet has been broken.

It's the second time in two years this has happened. The first time the broken piece was left there. This time, it's gone.

"To replace it's going to be pretty expensive. As a veteran's community, we are going to reach out and get $1,000 and we're going to make it a reward for the return of the bayonet and the apprehension of the person who did it," said Steve Bozeman, a Vietnam veteran.

A $2,000 donation from Liberty University paid to fix the statue the first time.

It will cost more this time if that broken piece is not found.

If you have any information about the broken bayonet, call Crime Stoppers at 888-798-5900.
