Mommy Monday: Protecting Your Kids at the Bus Stop

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA - A warning for parents as authorities in Isle of Wight County are searching for a man who took an 11-year-old from the bus stop.

Mommy Monday looks at how you can protect your kids.

Right now deputies are searching for a white man, with short blond hair, thin blonde beard and no mustache.

The sketches show him with and without glasses.

Police say the girl was abducted last Wednesday morning at the bus stop along U.S. Route 17. They say she was sexually assaulted at two locations before she was released.

School resource officers suggest having a family meeting, as a refresher on ways to stay safe.

Also, remind older siblings to look out for younger ones if they ride the same school bus or go to the same school.

"I know that's a time to socialize but pay attention to your surroundings, know what's going on…You never know when a car's going to come through and an animal is going to run out and that person is going to veer. You need a comfort zone so the kids can get out of the way," said a school resource officer.

School resource officers also say don't put your kids' names on their backpack because then the bad guy knows their name, what bus they ride, and the stop they get off.
