WIC Aid Could End Nov. 1

Tulsa, Oklahoma - Women who use WIC services in Oklahoma could see an end to their benefits Nov. 1.

According to Kaitlin Snider, Tulsa Health Department public information officer, 14,500 Tulsa County WIC participants could lose their aid effective Nov. 1 should the government shutdown not be resolved by then.

The program is currently able to help the mothers who use WIC vouchers through Oct. One month vouchers are still available and depending on circumstance, could be given on a priority or category basis.

The loss of benefits would effective the WIC program statewide.

The WIC program provides supplemental nutrition and education to women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or have recently given birth. The program also helps infants and children up to the age of five.
