Lynchburg School Officials Hold Public Budget Meeting

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA - Residents of Lynchburg were all ears Thursday night as city school administrators showcased their 2014-2015 budget.

At E.C. Glass High School, the first of two public budget forums were held. Parents and tax payers got to pose questions and hear directly from the source the reasoning for every aspect of the budget.

Parents and tax payers got to see where their money will be going and why.

Administrators broke down each aspect of the budget for the 2014-2015 school year, in an attempt they say to maintain an openness and honesty during their budget process.

Another aspect of the meeting was discussion of the school calendar. Administrators laid out reasons for school's starting and ending dates, as well as vacation time.

Parents and members of the public that attended were encouraged to give feedback and ask questions. And that's certainly what they did, parents saying meetings like these are crucial to a well-functioning school system, and city.

"I think it's a great way to provide feedback to the schools and I've told other people that. I wish more people had come. I was curious, I thought they had really responded to what they heard last year" said Chris Lloyd, a parent of three LCS students.

Administrators recapped what changes they had made to the budget from previous suggestions.

One additional public budget meeting will be held at Heritage High School on October 23rd, before a final vote on the budget in the spring.
