Charlotte - The last driver to qualify Thursday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway won the pole for Saturday night's fifth race in the Chase.
That last driver was Jeff Gordon, who turned a fast lap topping 194.3 miles an hour to edge the next-to-last qualifier Kevin Harvick by 15-hundredths of a second for his 74th career pole. It's Gordon's ninth career pole at Charlotte and his second pole this season.
Gordon and Harvick are on the front row with Greg Biffle and Jimmie Johnson on row two, Kasey Kahne qualified fifth.
Dale Earnhardt, Junior will start sixth as all four Hendrick drivers qualified in the top 6. The seventh spot went to Ryan Newman, with Juan Pablo Montoya, Kyle Busch and Kurt Busch rounding out the top 10. Points leader Matt Kenseth qualified 20th.
