Lynchburg Students Take Part in Earthquake Drill

Lynchburg, VA – Thursday at 10:17 a.m., thousands of Virginians paused at exactly the same time to practice the same three steps.

Thursday marks the second annual Great SouthEast Shakeout and Earthquake Drill.

More than 1 million Virginians signed up this year.

Students at Dunbar Middle School in Lynchburg took part.

The drill includes practicing stop, take cover and hold on.

"We realized that a couple years ago we that we were not prepared. What do the kids do? What do the faculty and staff do? What if you are in transition, what if you are in a classroom?" said Kacey Crabbe, Dunbar Middle School Principal.

As of a few weeks ago - state officials say Virginia is in second place, only to California, for the number of people registered for a rolling earthquake drill.
