Lynchburg, VA - There was a fundraiser Saturday for the 28-year-old Lynchburg man who was shot and seriously injured in Afghanistan.

Staff Sergeant Kareem Francis was gunned down five months into his first tour.

The event was held at Tree of Life Ministries in Lynchburg.

Kareem's father says about 150 people showed up, including 100 bikers. The bikers went on a ride from the church to the D Day Memorial and back.

There was also a bake and stew sale, as well as local bands.

In all, $1,600 was raised for Kareem's medical expenses.

Kareem's father says he is doing well. He still does not have feeling in his right leg and is still undergoing therapy and treatments at Walter Reed Military Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland

Kareem's father thanks all the local businesses for their donations too.
