Danville, VA -- Danville's Salvation Army is up against a lot of challenges this year to reach their Red Kettle Campaign goal.
Many large retailers will not let them set up the kettles until after Thanksgiving. But since Thanksgiving is so late this year, they have fewer days before Christmas to collect. Also, they usually have a kick-off fundraiser at VIR. But this year, because of track improvements, they are not able to have that event.
They hope to raise about $100,000 that they use year-round.
"It's a huge thing for us to be able to raise that income. It's budgeted for this coming year. We have a lot of things we want to do, a lot of impact in the community. And we love help and do but we can't do it without those funds," said Cpt. Karl Dahlin.
