Danville, VA - Delegate Danny Marshall has been re-elected to represent the 14th District for a seventh term.
Marshall took 59 % of the vote.
His Democratic opponent, Gary Miller, received 38 %.
Local officials were on hand to congratulate Marshall on his victory - including the winner of Danville's Commonwealth's Attorney Race --incumbent Michael Newman.
Marshall says as delegate, he will continue to put jobs and education first as he has done in the past.
"I've lived here my whole life. We've got to try to bring our standard of living up. I think we're doing that...just a little bit. We're not there, but we're making progress," said Marshall.
He also thanked his opponents Gary Miller and Independent Mary Martin, who received seven percent of the vote - for both running a clean race.
Danville, VA - The race for the 14th District House of Delegates seat has been a spirited one.
Incumbent Danny Marshall is up against Danville's Democratic Vice Mayor Gary Miller and Independent Mary Martin.
Marshall and Miller are two well-known names in the city of Danville and surrounding areas, but tonight, it's all about the numbers. Marshall has been delegate since 2002.
Marshall was out early Tuesday morning telling voters about his hope to continue creating jobs in our area if re-elected.
At Miller's headquarters, volunteers were making last-minute calls to get voters to the polls and encourage them to vote for the city councilman.
The 14th District includes Danville, and parts of both Pittsylvania and Henry Counties.
After months of preparing, both candidates say they are glad to finally see who will be chosen to move this area forward.
"There's a lot of people coming out and we're encouraged, because that was our plan, to enlarge the electorate. The more people that get out to vote, the better," said Dr. Gary Miller, the Democratic candidate.
"What I enjoy is going to the polls and talking to the people and getting feedback from them about what we're doing right and the trust that they put into me that they want me to go back to Richmond to keep doing what we've been doing," said Marshall, the Republican incumbent.
Early predictions place their opponent Mary Martin behind in the polls, but it's not over for the former Henry County School Board Member until the votes are counted.
