Lynchburg Sheriff Re-Elected for Another Four Years

Lynchburg, VA - Ron Gillispie has been re-elected to serve another term as Lynchburg's sheriff.  At last check, he was beating Kevin Chapman by 58% of the votes.

Gillispie took the podium at the Republican Headquarters in Leesville Road Tuesday evening, to thank voters.

"The voters of Lynchburg saw through what my opponent was trying to say about me. Experience, folks, does matter. And I think that was proven by the voters of Lynchburg tonight," Gillispie said.

Gillispie, who's been the sheriff for the last 12 years says the next four will be challenging, including the seven positions his department will lose from the compensation board.

After thanking his wife of 47 years, Gillispie also thanked his deputies, 100% of which supported his re-election.

When reached by phone, his opponent Kevin Chapman, congratulated the sheriff on the win, but said he has no regrets throwing his hat in the ring.

Chapman also added, he believes the concerns that were raised during the sheriff's race were legitimate, referring to the state police investigation of Captain Buddy Gene Wade. Wade is being investigated for allegedly taking scrap gold he knew was stolen from Lynchburg Pawn and selling it for a profit.

Sheriff Gillispie says this will probably be his last four years as sheriff. He has no plans to run again.
