McAuliffe: 'We Have a lot of Work to do'

Tyson's Corner, VA - Terry McAuliffe is taking in his victory over Ken Cuccinelli in the race to become Virginia's next governor.

It was a blow to the Tea Party Tuesda night, after Cuccinelli lost by around 60,000 votes.

Geographically, most of Virginia voted for Cuccinelli, but the much larger population centers in Northern Virginia brought home the win for McAuliffe.

McAuliffe also vastly overspent Cuccinelli, who faced doubts about his conservative ideology and skepticism in general over the Tea Party.

"It was a choice about whether Virginia would continue the bipartisan tradition that has served us so well over the last decade," said Governor-Elect Terry McAuliffe (D).

Florida Senator Marco Rubio is downplaying the blow to the Tea Party, saying it all came down to a lack of funding for Cuccinelli.

"He didn't have those resources to answer some of the negative attacks about him and it created a caricature about him that he was unable to undo. Despite all that he came within a handful of votes of winning a race that everyone said was going to be a blowout," Rubio said.

"I always said it was going to be close. I always said it was going to be a couple points from the day I got in. You know it's been a 35 year plus curse of whoever wins the White House the other party wins the governor's mansion so we knew it was going to be tough. Great field team, great volunteers spectacular. It's a great win, we're happy now we've got a lot of work to do," McAuliffe said.
