Mommy Monday: Gun Violence in PG-13 Rated Movies on the Rise

Posted:

A new study breaks down how much violence is in PG-13 movies.

Findings in the journal Pediatrics show it's more than tripled since the rating was introduced in the mid-1980s.

Last year it was even more than the amount of violence in R-rated movies.

Researchers looked at 945 films from the top grossing releases from 1950 to 2012 and noted all the violent sequences.

Researchers say the results were shocking because they are worried about the weapons effect.

That's when kids see violence on TV and that leads to more aggressive behavior in the real world.

So they say a rating is just a warning for parents and they ultimately have to decide if their kids should see that movie or not.
