Lynchburg, VA - J.E. Jamerson & Sons of Appomattox and C.L. Lewis & Company of Lynchburg have been competing against each other for decades, but now the construction companies are merging.

CEO of C.L. Lewis & Company Preston Craighill and President of J.E. Jamerson & Sons Phillip Jamerson announced Wednesday the name of the new company -- Jamerson-Lewis Construction.

Each company made an excess of $20 million in revenue last year, and once they merge, both men say they hope to more than double that.

They say their companies competed against each other for more than 35 years, but when the opportunity came up to join forces, they had to jump on board.

In total, the new company will have about 90 employees. Its headquarters will in Lynchburg -where C.L. Lewis currently is. They're working on expanding and renovating one of the buildings.

Both men say the company will maintain the relationships they have in Central Virginia. But they hope this merger will allow them to land even bigger projects and make them more competitive.

"We're a bigger company, so we have more resources. We can take better care of the customers that we have through the synergy that we have, and hopefully expand our customer base," said Phillip Jamerson.

They hope to officially start projects as the new Jamerson-Lewis Construction in January 2014.
