Lynchburg - The Lynchburg College women's basketball team broke open a 31-23 game at the half, outscoring Shenandoah by 17 in the final 20 minutes to win 69-44 in the ODAC opener for both teams.
L.C.'s lead was only 9 with less than 13 minutes left before the Hornets used a 10-0 run to push the lead to 19 and put the game out of reach.
Junior forward Shannon Allen scored 18 of her game-high 20 points in the first half, and hit 8-of-12 shots from the floor. Sammi Goldsmith added 12 points, seven assists, four rebounds and three steals with Charmaine Hairston chipping in 9 points.
Crystal Petrus scored a game-high 16 points for Shenandoah (0-3/0-1 ODAC). Imani Heggins posted eight points and nine rebounds, and Holly Chittenden added six points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Lynchburg (1-2/1-0) travels to Meredith College Saturday for a non-conference game Saturday at 2 p.m.
