Warning Signs of Alzheimer's Disease

Lynchburg, VA - November is National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month.

And with the holidays just around the corner, the Alzheimer's Association Central and Western Virginia wants to make sure you know the warning signs.

Look for things like:

Memory loss that disrupts daily life

Challenges in planning or solving problems

Difficulty completing familiar tasks at home, work, or leisure

New problems with words in speaking or writing

Misplacing things and losing the ability to retrace steps

Decreased or poor judgment

Withdrawal from work or social activities

And changes in mood and personality

"There's a difference between normal aging and Alzheimer's, and many people assume that there isn't. There's cognitive abilities may decrease a bit as we get older," said Jane Massie, the development manager for the group.

The Alzheimer's Association has a 24-hour help line if you need to speak to someone.

The number is 1.800.272.3900.
