Organizers of Lynchburg Christmas Parade Hoping for Mild Weather

Lynchburg, VA - Organizers of Lynchburg's Christmas parade are crossing their fingers that the weather holds out this Sunday. The forecast isn't looking so good for them, though.

Organizers say they're hoping to have the parade rain or shine, but it's actually not up to them. The Retail Merchants Association is putting on the parade this year, but it's up to the Lynchburg Police Department to determine if conditions are safe enough for the event.

Last year's parade was unseasonably warm. No light jackets this year, though. If the parade does happen you'll need something more along the lines of umbrellas and parkas.

Laurie Gulluscio with the Retail Merchants Association says they are really hoping for some milder weather because they only have one shot at this parade.

"There's actually too much preparation that's been involved obviously for the people with floats and schedules and everything that they have done. We do not have an alternate day. So should it be canceled it would actually just be canceled for this year," said Gulluscio.

If the parade goes on as planned, Gulluscio says there are several pre and post parade events going on inside downtown businesses, so folks will be able to warm up and dry off.
