Jamisha's Mother 'Already Knew' Body was Hers

Lynchburg, VA - The family of Jamisha Gilbert is preparing to bury the 18-year-old honors graduate from Heritage High School.

The medical examiner positively identified her body as the one found Wednesday morning in a wooded area off Route 460.

This area where the body was found is known as the Megginson Lane Cemetery, just two miles away from where Gilbert's car was found wrecked and abandoned.

While police piece together the final minutes of Jamisha's life, her mother is confident she'll get some answers.

"I am really torn to pieces, but I am trying to be strong," said Jamisha's mother Norma Gilbert-Eldridge. "This is the heartbreak. But it brings closure. And that's what I need."

As an army of yellow scoured the area along US 460 and the Concord Turnpike, Jamisha's mother already had a terrible feeling about what they'd find.

"She had a big, big, big, big heart. She made a big, tremendous, phenomenal sacrifice. I will never let her die. She will always be alive," Gilbert-Eldridge said.

Police still aren't saying whether foul play was involved in Jamisha's death. She graduated with high honors from Heritage High School with dreams of becoming a lawyer.

"I want to know exactly what happened to her. I do not know what happened to her," Gilbert-Eldridge said.

Jamisha's mother is staying strong, thanks to friends and family, including her daughter's high school counselor.

"Everyone is showing so much support, love and dedication. I'm just so overwhelmed. And I'm grateful," Gilbert-Eldridge said.

Questions now focus on the tiny cemetery where a handful of officers process a possible crime scene.

Jamisha's mother says she is confident she'll find out what exactly happened to her daughter.

"There's another life and I plan to be there. And in that life, I'm gonna get everything I want," Gilbert-Eldridge said.

Jamisha's family is asking for donations to help pay to transport Jamisha's body to Maryland, where she'll be buried. They have not set a funeral date.
