Fifth St. in Lynchburg Slated To Re-Open To Two Way Traffic

Lynchburg, VA - It's been an active construction site for years, good news now though for folks who travel up and down Lynchburg's Fifth Street.

City officials say the street will reopen to two way traffic between Harrison and Main streets, by Saturday afternoon. Traffic has been one way there for months.

The city says drivers can expect to see some short term lane closures in that area over the next few weeks.

But Friday's news came as a welcome announcement to business owners who say they've taken a hit from the constant construction.

"Hopefully it means the business will come back full blast and that we'll be back full staff again and we can give people their jobs back and make things work. I hope that's what it means" said Debby Ruffin, owner of the James River Conference Center.

Fifth Street construction began back in September of 2011. Engineers were hopeful it would be completed no later than July of 2013.
