Blacksburg - Virginia Tech senior forward Jarell Eddie has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Basketball Player of the Week, while North Carolina freshman forward Kennedy Meeks unanimously earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors.
The 6-foot-7 Eddie led the Hokies to a pair of wins, including a 61-60 overtime road victory at defending ACC champion Miami Sunday in Tech's conference opener. Eddie led all scorers with 24 points in the win over the Hurricanes and added seven rebounds. He was 6-of-14 from 3-point range. Eddie scored the Hokies' final 11 points in regulation and the winning points in the overtime period.
Earlier in the week, Eddie scored a career-high 34 points and grabbed seven rebounds in an 81-63 win over Winthrop. Eddie was forced to play both guard spots in addition to his usual small forward position due to injuries for the Hokies.
